The Vince Staples Show +

THE VINCE STAPLES SHOW +

An all new streaming service from Vince Staples
Role

Product Manager & Head Designer

Client

Vince Staples & Motown Records

Project Date

August-December 2019

In August of 2019, I worked with Vince Staples’ team to build a satirical streaming platform to center Vince’s new album around. Leading a team of developers, a team of writers and creatives, and a very tight budget and timeline, we created “The Vince Staples Show +”. A one-stop shop for music and video content, riddled with humorous commentary and built to look and function like a real streaming service.

Just like the episodes of a television show, the “episodes” for The Vince Staples Show were released one by one onto the streaming platform. The episodes themselves were actually the music videos for the album, but even the title of them on other services (like YouTube) included the episode #. In this way, we were able to ensure the brand of the album was fully committed to the streaming service concept.

Following the model of many streaming services, each video was complete with a dropdown menu that included an embedded video player, a description of the “Episode,” and any bonus content. In the case of The Vince Staples Show, the bonus content was there to add more value for fans to the site, as we tried our best to provide any behind the scenes footage or photographs we could find, or provide any merchandise that would relate to the episode. Meanwhile, the descriptions were witty quips often unrelated to the video itself, attempting to capture Vince’s sense of humor.

While “The Vince Staples Show” was the main “show” highlighted on the streaming platform, as it’s also the name of Vince’s newest album, the rest of Vince’s albums are also displayed to appear as their own shows on the site. Each “show” (album) had it’s own row, complete with it’s full listing of “episodes” (tracks and music videos). By doing this, the site became a one-stop shop not just for this album, but for Vince’s whole catalogue of music, allowing fans to look back and listen to Vince’s full evolution as an artist.

Along with other “shows” (albums), the site needed to include other featured Vince content to fully round out that it was a both a Vince Staples themed streaming platform, but also a destination for Vince content of all types. These rows followed the same schema the rest of the “shows” did, with embedded videos, witty descriptions, and featured content to hopefully keep fans engaged for hours.

The site also included “Tour,” “Listen,” and “Shop” tabs in the top navigation that would provide information and resources to fans looking for a quick update. The “Tour” tab would lead to any upcoming tour dates, the “Listen” tab would link to Vince’s newest release, and featured above, the “Shop” tab would link to all of the newest merchandise for the show. This merchandise was released with each episode of the Vince Staples show, some of it being showcased directly in the episodes themselves.
